Good to the last Drop.

So we actually got down to some painting today. For those of you keeping track I believe it may have taken two weeks from the planned start date. I just keep telling myself, "its not a race."
Of course everything else in our house is a race these days. This morning the wife gave the daughter the idea of have a yard sale with the stuffed animals we are planning to get rid of. So naturally the son had to get in on the action. They sold a total of zero stuffies and three glasses of weak, no lemon added, iced tea. I bought one of the glasses. For dinner I was lacking in motivation and so was the wife. She said we should get some take out. The daughter requested mom made food and the son wanted A & W chicken. Thus the table on display this evening. The wife made soba in a miso soup with some koya tofu mixed in. She also pan fried up some perogies. I took the son through the drive through and we got the family meal, on sale, $26.24 taxes in. Ouch.

I am now getting a lot of pressure to apply the finishing coat after dinner. Earlier the walls were cleaned and then a primer coat was applied. Not really feeling the continue painting vibe. I plan to resist and finish tomorrow. If I have the strength.

More comfort food.

Nothing crappy happened today. We just weren't into cooking so we went with something easy. French fries, perogies and a green salad with orange segements (the wife added the colour, I was in charge of the starch).
I actually had some good news today. A colleague called and offered up her husbands old bike. Turns out they just bought new ones and are no longer in need of their old ones. Their old ones are like new to me so I am very excited to be back in the bike game. Talked to the insurance people and though our deductible is a little steep we can replace everything and get reimbursed for it. So it sounds like insurance does work. We don't know if we are willing to cough up the deductible but maybe once I am getting paid again in the fall we may change our mind. In any case we will definitely be replacing the bike trailer.

In another neat piece of news I saw a family travelling by bike today. Two parents, three kids, two tandem bicycles with one of those ride along trailers on the back of one of them. Talk about seeing a picture of yourself in real life. It definitely looked like the kind of setup we could work. And they were riding through the Kootneys. Saddle bags and the whole bit. Yes it was a little piece of perfection if you ask me. Give me four - five years and I hope that will be us.

Not so Bad.

Well the first day back wasn't so bad. I mean work is work and lets face it, there are plenty of worse jobs out there. Dinner however, could not have been better. It was kids choice tonight and that choice was perogies and mashed turnip. Mashed turnip has turned into a fan favourite. Now I can understand this because I have always loved mashed turnip but it seems to me that there are people out there who don't love the giant root vegetable (sometimes called a rutabaga... Research time... Okay after looking it up on good old Wikipedia it turns out our "yellow turnip" is indeed a rutabaga where as the true turnip has white flesh and seems a little rounder). The green salad was originally going to be a coleslaw but we didn't get to our favourite organic cabbage store on the weekend so it was a no go. We hope to haveslaw later in the week. Also gotta get the wife into making salad dressing mode. I am tired of the store bought stuff. I mean its good but I need my vinegar, oil and onion dressing fix. The miso soup was also a nice touch. It was cooked up two days ago and then fridged. Heat and serve. Two of my favourite words.

Ruso-Chinese War.

Well when one makes perogies and cha-han what else can it be called. The perogies were your basic freezer bag full. I fried up some bacon, onions and mushrooms to add as a topping. Unfortunately, I forgot the sour cream. Rats. The cha-han was diced onions, garlic, bacon, carrots and red pepper (yes they were all diced). This was stir fried until it all got soft and done then I scooted it all over to the side and fried up the egg I had just whisked. After this was sufficiently done I added the previously cooked rice (small nuke action to warm it). This was stirred into the vegetables with some salt, pepper, soy sauce and ketchup. It really worked. The kids loved it. Speaking of the kids here they are with their mom. I couldn't decide which picture was better. The son wasn't looking in one, the daughter in the other. I feel like I have to have a baby shot every night now. Oh the pressure.

Thursday June 12th

Well I was not home for dinner so you can't fault me for getting this one up late. Imagine my confusion upon seeing this picture and being told they had perogies for dinner. Apparently this is what my daughter wanted for dinner. Do you see any perogies? I do not see any perogies. Upon further investigation this is the crispy chicken from the picnic lunch they had in the park today. Some people are enjoying a pretty nice life. On Thursday they kindergarten class had a fun day in the morning and this was followed by the aforementioned picnic in the park. Like that wasn't a killer day. Dinner consisted of the perogies (noticeably absent) crispy chicken, onigiri (riceballs) and okay the picture just popped up and I am a total idiot. What I took for Onigiri sprinkled liberally with soy sauce are indeed the perogies. I am thinking about going back and rewriting this entry to keep myself from looking like an idiot. Unfortunately that horse has already left the barn. Those marshmallow looking things in the salad I have confirmed are in fact chopped daikon. Good looking salad. Anyways here is a picture of the Kindergarten fun day. Bean bags and sunshine equals fun as far as I am concerned.
