Ferocious Corn

She really looks like she is attacking that corn there doesn't she. I told her she looked like she was almost crying in the picture but she was having a great time while taking it. Along with corn we also had a tofu peanut sauce stir fry. Hey its Tofuesday. I used a whole packet of bean sprouts in the stir fry. I didn't want to but the wife cajoled me into it. I was using like two thirds and she gave me the stern look with a sharp verbal jab and I poured the rest in. Something about them not keeping well.

They sure did make for some good eatin though. You will notice that my dinner was served in the temporary holding bowl for sauced up tofu. I took it out of the wok while frying the vegetables and then returned it when the veggies were ready. Messy bowl. Yummy food. I think you know which matters to me.

We have a little g-ma action here for the next twenty four to thirty two hours. Need to change batteries in camera.

Fish on the cob.

For my Japanese readers.

Nihon Jin ga kono blog wo yonde imasu. Dare desu ka. Comment ni namae kaitte kudasai.
So it was corn and fish for our evening feed. The fish was lightly battered , (the wife had a rough day and couldn't take it out on the kids) and then pan fried. The corn was very gently boiled (still crunchy but the kids loved it). Also there was a risotto-esque stir fried rice and veggies dish. Not quite as smooth as risotto but definitely a few steps beyond cha-han. I put together another bowl of guacamole. This evening I added in the kids salsa, no yogurt, no vinegar. Currently the daughter is finishing off the dip and the chips while watching Oliver (animated) behind me. In other news the son dropped out of swimming lessons today. He was in the pre school level one and they are learning to blow bubbles and slip into the pool holding the instructors hands. I think he was just super bored because he likes diving for rings and jumping head first into the deep end. I sat with him watching the lesson for about twenty minutes thinking he might crack and want to join but to no avail. So we walked home. The lady from the pool called us up after dinner. After talking to his teacher she offered to put him into the level 5,6,7 class. So if things line up we may give that a shot on Wednesday. However, I am feeling like we might do just as well going and challenging ourselves at public swim. With his sister around he has all the motivation one could ask for. That with the fact he has no fear and really what else do you need. Wait till he's six and sign him up for the swim team.

Dinner Out

So we had dinner at our friends house this evening but this getting ahead of things. The wife had her first day of work today. She is volunteering at the local organic bakery to learn the trade, get out of the house, and try something new. During the morning I was in charge of the kidlets and after doing the dishes we went to the school to drop of some stuff and pick up some stuff. The daughter rode her gear bike and she can really cook now. We raced at one point and with me pulling the trailer I actually gave up and she won. She still tips over sometimes on starting and stopping but seems to really like the big kid effect and we can make much more miles on the average trip. After we arrived back home it was time for lunch so we went out to the garden and harvested some tomatoes and peppers for salsa and pasta sauce.

I made two varieties of salsa, one hot one not. The key to the deliciousness of the salsa was that I strained off a lot of the tomato juice which made nice tomato juice and made the salsa thicker and scoopier. The pasta was served with a really simple, onion, garlic, oregano, tomato sauce. All from fresh. I added an avocado to the salsas and that was pretty much all I wanted for lunch. Now you might be wondering at the extraordinary output for lunch. Well we had dinner plans. Our friends had invited us over for dinner. This was a wonderful feast. I brought some sangria which I won as a door prize at a meeting I had to attend. The fruit and wine combination was perfect on a warm late summer evening. We had our first glass as we sat outside shucking the corn and make horrible puns. The corn on the cob was cooked to perfection, they even put out the whole bar of butter to properly get your cob covered. Definitely a nice touch. The chicken wings were done in a teriyaki sauce and perfectly complimented the home made Cesar salad, with freshly cooked turkey bacon bits. Accompanied by a side of white rice it was a great way to spend an evening with friends. We started the summer having dinner at their house and now we have put the summer to bed with them as well. The topper to this meal was the chocolate cheesecake topped with strawberries. My affection/affliction for cheesecake is well documented. I just love it. Now we should have a picture of dinner but I am waiting on the e-mail with that. When I get it you will see it.

It has arrived.
